The Stanisław Moniuszko International Vocal Competition, organized by the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera, is the largest vocal competition in Poland. It was established 30 years ago by Maria Fołtyn. The prestige of the competition was confirmed by its admission to the World Federation of International Music Competitions in 2019.
Every three years, young singers come to Warsaw to present their talent. This year it gathered 102 participants from 6 continents and as many as 28 countries.
The competition consists of three parts. The first and the second parts are held with piano accompaniment; participants perform opera arias as well as Polish songs and songs from the world repertoire. However, in the finale, accompanied by an orchestra, they perform a Polish opera, oratorio or operetta aria, and an opera aria from the world repertoire, different from those performed before.
The international jury included outstanding Polish singers: Ewa Podleś, Izabela Kłosińska, Mariusz Kwiecień, as well as theater managers from around the world. The jury was chaired by the editor-in-chief of Opera Magazine, John Allison.
