by DignityNews.eu

The Silesian Museum in Katowice is inviting viewers to visit the new exhibition “Beyond Eden. Contemporary art from the collection of the Silesian Museum in Katowice”. It is one of the largest long-term presentations of many works in the museum that has not been shown to the public so far in Silesia.

The exhibition includes works of Judyta Bernaś, Urszula Broll, Stanisław Dróżdż, Zbylut Grzywacz, Władysław Hasior, Natalia LL, Luxus Group, Lech Majewski, Monstfur Group, Igor Neubauer, Józef Robakowski, Jerzy Rosołowicz, Zofia Rydet, Tomasz Struka, Andrzej Szczepański, Jan Grzegorz Szczepański, Jerzy Truszkowski, Andrzej Urbanowicz, Ryszard Winiarski and many others.

The exhibition allows visitors to see one of the largest collections of contemporary art in Silesia. Most of the works will be shown for the first time. Both the inhabitants of the region and visitors from far away should join this unusual journey, requiring concentration and perseverance, but also offering intense and moving feelings. The organizers wish that exhibition, like most journeys, will bring people closer to each other.

The exhibition “Beyond Eden” was created with the intention of presenting the works acquired for the museum’s collection in December 2018. Originally, they were part of the Silesian Collection of Contemporary Art, which belonged to the Foundation for Silesia, established in Katowice in 2001.

The creation of the collection began in 2004 as part of the National Program “Signs of the Times”. As a result of management and financial problems, the collection was first bought by a private owner, and then it almost entirely returned into the museum’s collections, thanks to the efforts of the management and custodians of the Silesian Museum and with the subsidy support of the Marshal’s Office in Katowice.
