Equinor and Polenergia have selected Siemens Gamesa to supply turbines for the Baltic II and Baltic III offshore wind farms. Final contracts have been signed for the manufacture, supply and servicing of 100 state-of-the-art offshore wind turbines. The Baltic II and III offshore wind farms, with a total capacity of 1440 MW, will provide green energy for more than two million households.
The SG 14-236 DD turbines ordered for the Bałtyk II and Bałtyk III projects are the largest offshore turbines manufactured to date by Siemens Gamesa. Each will have a capacity of 14.4 MW. One turn of the rotor of an installed turbine will produce clean energy to meet the needs of one household in Poland for four days.
The signed contracts concern the design, delivery, installation, and commissioning of 100 modern offshore wind turbines, as well as their maintenance and warranty service. The agreement is the final step after both parties signed a reservation agreement for the delivery of the turbines in February 2022.
“The offshore wind turbines ordered for the Bałtyk II and Bałtyk III projects are the flagship model of the Siemens Gamesa brand, achieving impressive power output. The finalisation of the contracts for their manufacture and delivery is crucial for the implementation of our projects in the Baltic Sea and represents a very important step in the development of the entire offshore wind energy sector in Poland. Clean renewable energy from Equinor’s and Polenergia’s Baltic projects should power the national grid as early as 2027”, says Polenergia S.A. CEO Dr Michał Michalski.
The projects jointly implemented by Equinor and Polenergia are a key element of Poland’s energy transition. Residents of Pomerania can find out more about them at the ‘Baltic Offshore Wind Farm Information Centre’. The information point opened by investors in Leba is the first of its kind in Poland.
