Russian Gazprom halted gas supplies to Poland. The government assures no change for the recipients

by Dignity News
The Russian gas company Gazprom has interrupted gas supplies to Poland due to its refusal to pay in Russian rubles. Polish Oil and Gas Mining (Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo- PGNiG) and Gaz-System inform that fuel transmission to customers is carried out in accordance with the demand. The national transmission system is continuously supplied with other inputs to the gas system, and underground gas storage facilities are filled.

The government’s plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure, Piotr Naimski, said that all current gas consumers in Poland will receive this raw material at the level as they received it previously.

“Gaz-System is implementing diversification strategies, i.e. diversifying the directions and sources of gas supplies to Poland, and the variant assuming the suspension of Russian supplies has been prepared and is currently being implemented. This is a variant in which all gas recipients in Poland will receive this raw material at the level at which they have received it until now”, said Naimski.

PGNiG emphasized that it is prepared to obtain gas from various directions, including through gas connections on Poland’s western and southern borders and the LNG terminal in Świnoujście, which successively increases the number of served LNG carriers. The gas supply balance is supplemented by domestic gas production and fuel reserves accumulated in underground gas storage facilities. Currently, the warehouse filling level is approximately 80% and is significantly higher than in the corresponding period in previous years.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki also spoke about the suspension of gas supplies. During a meeting with journalists in Berlin, he said that Poland had previously prepared to diversify gas and obtain it from various directions.

“Even before the launch of the Baltic Gas Pipeline, we will be able to protect our economy, protect households, people and Poles against such a dramatic step by Russia”, said the head of government.
