Record in Polish food exports. European Union countries remain major partner

According to Director General of the National Support Centre for Agriculture, Henryk Smolarz, in 2023 Polish entrepreneurs sold agri-food goods abroad with a record value of EUR 51.8 billion (PLN 225 billion), i.e. for an amount 8.1 % higher than the year before. The highest revenues were generated from exports of meat and meat products and dairy products.

Poland’s main trade partner in 2023 was the European Union (EU) countries, to which more than 73 % of exported food products were shipped. Food goods worth €38 billion were sold on the EU market, representing a 7 % increase compared to 2022. 

The largest recipient of Polish food was Germany, where products worth €13.3 billion were delivered (an increase of 11 %). Other large importers were the Netherlands (€3.2 billion, up 2 %), France (€3.0 billion, up 4 %), Italy (€2.5 billion, up 7 %) and the Czech Republic (€2.4 billion, up 9 %).

EU countries mainly bought tobacco products (worth €4.6 billion), poultry meat (€3.1 billion), dairy products (€2.2 billion), bread and bakery products (€2.1 billion), beef (€1.8 billion), pet food (€1.7 billion), and chocolate products (€1.7 billion) from Poland.

Agri-food products worth EUR 13.8 billion were exported from Poland to non-EU countries, (increase of 11 %). The largest recipients were the United Kingdom with (export revenues of EUR 4.2 billion, an increase of 14 %), Ukraine (EUR 1.03 billion, an increase of 9 %) and the United States (EUR 870 million, an increase of 13 %).

The main exports outside the EU were wheat (€1.2 billion, 4.7 million tonnes), dairy products (€1.1 billion), poultry meat (€961 million, 530,000 tonnes), bread and bakery products (€937 million, 192,000 tonnes), tobacco products (€821 million, 49,000 tonnes) and chocolate and chocolate products (€798 million, 149,000 tonnes).
