PKP Intercity has already transported more than 50 million passengers in 2022. This means that a month and a half before the end of the year, the record set in the best year to date, 2019, was broken. Then the carrier’s trains carried nearly 49 million travelers.
October was another month in which travel with PKP Intercity was in high demand, with 5.2 million people traveling on the carrier’s trains. This month, the popularity of rail travel was higher than in September (more than 4.8 million), which is largely due to a pool of one million tickets at promotional prices introduced at the beginning of the month.
“PKP Intercity’s freight performance clearly proves that rail is becoming increasingly popular in Poland. Trains are the transportation of the future so it is worth befriending them today. We are also pleased that the investment strategy and the attractive ticket offers are reflected in the high turnout. The historic breaking of the 50 million passenger benchmark is a source of pride for us, an expression of great confidence from travelers and, at the same time, a huge incentive for further hard work”, says Marek Chraniuk, CEO of PKP Intercity.
From the beginning of the year to the end of October 2022, 48.8 million passengers traveled on PKP Intercity trains. That’s nearly 19.9 million more than in the same period last year (a 68% increase), as well as 7.9 million more (19 % growth) than after the first 10 months of record-breaking 2019 to date.
Travel with PKP Intercity was also very popular during the long weekend – from Thursday, November 10 to Sunday, November 13, 2022, nearly 790,000 people, or nearly 200,000 passengers a day, traveled on the carrier’s trains. The long weekend on the National Independence Day was also unique in yet another respect. On its course, PKP Intercity transported the 50 millionth passenger this year.
