Prime ministers of Poland and Georgia meet in Batumi

by DignityNews.eu
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said during his visit to Georgia that Poland supports Georgia’s road to the European community. “Georgia’s place is definitely in Europe, Georgia’s place is in the European Union”, assured the head of government after the meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

At the press conference in Batumi, the head of the Polish government spoke about cooperation between the two countries. According to Morawiecki, the cooperation is developing well and could be even better if not the current, difficult political circumstances.

“Georgia, Poland, Ukraine versus their big neighbor, bordering Georgia from the north, Poland from the north and east. We all want to live in peace with Russia. But we know that there, in the Kremlin, they have not yet matured to such a peaceful reflection and that the policy of aggression towards Georgia, Ukraine and the European Union is the basic Russian policy”, noted Morawiecki.

“Poland invariably supports Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations not against any country, but for peace in this area, as the best possible conditions for cooperation between democratic states and in cooperation with our big neighbor as well. Let this voice be heard there that our cooperation is not cooperation against anyone, but for harmonious cooperation and harmonious development, in the hope that one day this development will be also compatible with our Russian neighbor”, emphasized the Polish Prime Minister.

The head of the Georgian government announced that he had talked with Morawiecki about Georgia’s efforts to join the European Union. He added that Poland is great support for this endeavour.

“We are aware that this road to the EU may be difficult and long. We know that it will not be an accelerated procedure, but we are very motivated, and the association agreement I signed in 2014 makes us move in this direction and makes us hope to finally reach this main goal” said the head of the Georgian government.

Garibashvili assured that his country, like Poland, showed solidarity with war-torn Ukraine. He stressed that Georgia, like Poland, has a long history of cooperation with Ukraine and stated that his country was aware of the tragedy taking place in Ukraine now. He recalled that Georgia had similar experiences from the war with Russia. He stressed that his country is for investigating and proving Russia’s war crimes.

“We will continue to support Ukraine. We have common goals and we hope that this war will end and there will be peace in Ukraine”, Garibashvili said. He also thanked PM Morawiecki for the support that Poland showed to Georgian citizens during their evacuation from war-torn Ukraine.
