European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Friday, 15 December after a meeting with Prime Minister Tusk, that EU is ready to provide Poland with €5 billion in pre-financing, i.e. as an advance payment. This will help Poland carry out its decarbonisation work and fight climate change, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Earlier, Poland had applied for funds under the National Recovery Plan (KPO). This is important because the Tusk government wants to trigger the procedures related to deadlines in this way. The point is that each country can only submit two KPO applications per year, so by submitting one this year, Poland has the opportunity to submit two more applications in 2024.
During the press conference, the head of the European Commission said: “We have received the first application for the disbursement of KPO funds. I look forward to working closely on the milestones on the independence of the judiciary so that we can make the first disbursement”.
” Large sums of European, i.e. our, money are starting to flow to Poland. The money from the advance is expected to come to Poland”, said Donald Tusk.
“Your personal commitment and experience in European affairs will be invaluable to our European family. There is a lot of work ahead of us and I am glad that we will do it together. I welcome your commitment to put the rule of law at the top of your government’s plans”, said the EC head, addressing Donald Tusk.
“We need to make up for lost time, I look forward to working closely together, in particular in achieving the milestones on the independence of the judiciary. I hope that together we will solve these problems. For too long, reservations on the rule of law have limited our ability to help Poland”, she added.
