The head of the Polish government met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
“It could not be any other capital, it had to be Kyiv. The first capital I visit after the elections in Poland”, said Donald Tusk after his meeting with President Zelenski.
The Polish Prime Minister said that there is no more credible politician in the world working for peace today than President Zelenski. “He is credible because he stood at the head of the nation with this belief in possible peace, but he stood up to fight when this peace, not only in Ukraine, but throughout the world, was crossed out by the Russian aggressor”, said the Polish Prime Minister.
“You are actually fighting for the security of the entire free world. I repeat this everywhere I go in the world, and it is not a slogan. It would be good for all political leaders, all nations of the world to understand that these are not just empty words, that here in Ukraine the fate of the free world is at stake”, said Donald Tusk.
“Today, I declared to the President, that Poland will continue to do everything in our power to increase Ukraine’s chances of victory in this war, we do this from moral motives, but also keeping in mind our own interest, the most fundamental one, the security of the Polish state and the Polish nation”, he said.
The Ukrainian president noted that his country is the destination of the first foreign visit of the new Polish prime minister. ” “I am very pleased that we are meeting on the Day of Unity of Ukraine. It has historical, but also political significance in the context of the unity of Ukraine. It is about our defence, our fight against Russia’s invasion”, said Zelenski.
The leaders also discussed the joint purchase of armaments, the situation on the Polish-Ukrainian border, where a carrier protest has been suspended, and support for Ukraine’s membership of the European Union and assistance in rebuilding the country. The Polish government has appointed a special plenipotentiary in this regard.
