“Today, the entire free world is united in its opposition to Russia’s attack on Ukraine. The position of cultural personages is also important – one of them is the American actor Sean Penn, with whom I also had the opportunity to talk about it”, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki commented on Facebook on March 26 and added that Penn is a great figure of world culture, but also an interesting speaker and a man involved in humanitarian aid for people in need. “I thank him very much for all this. Nobody can remain indifferent to what is happening in Mariupol or Kharkiv”.

Last week, Sean Penn, a two-time Oscar winner (“River of Secrets” and “Citizen Milk”) on behalf of the charity foundation CORE, signed in Krakow an agreement on aid for refugees.

Pursuant to the agreement, Krakow will receive “know-how” from the CORE foundation, including practical information gained on the basis of the experience of this organization to date. In addition, CORE will open its branch in Krakow, where it will employ workers. Their task will be to help refugees in the places where they have stayed. The cooperation is also to be based on the financial support of the foundation. It is known that the organization will provide funds for the renewal of vacancy houses for 50 refugees.

Prime Minister Morawiecki recalled in his Facebook post that Sean Penn has been involved in helping Ukraine for two years.

“In 2021, Sean Penn appeared in the village of Shirokino and in Mariupol. He then started making a documentary which he continued in recent weeks. The actor was in the very center of Kyiv when armed aggression began. He evacuated to Poland on foot and reported everything on social media. On March 23, Penn flew back to Poland as a representative of the foundation”, added Prime Minister Morawiecki.
