“The government’s Solidarity Shield is working. In addition to guaranteeing electricity prices, the Law and Justice party’s government and local authorities are working to secure sources of heat and coal for Polish families. No one will be freezing this winter!”, wrote Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on Facebook after a briefing with voivodes held at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration on the distribution of coal by local governments and the support of this task by voivodes.
The Prime Minister said that around 4 million tonnes of coal had already been stockpiled in Polish ports.
Last week, the government proposed new solutions for coal distribution. As a result, residents will have greater access to this raw material, also at a lower price. Local authorities will be able to buy coal for PLN 1,500 and sell it for up to PLN 2,000.
“We want to reach all the citizens who still need coal through the municipalities. We know that roughly 50 % of citizens have bought coal from existing sources, but some do not yet have it. We need to provide them with this coal through the municipalities”, explained PM Morawiecki.
The head of government placed particular emphasis on the necessity of cooperation between government and local administration.
“I would like voivodes to be a natural link between local governments and the government administration, which oversees the process of importing coal from all over the world, to ensure that there is no shortage of it”, said the Prime Minister and assured that “we will try as a government administration, in cooperation with local governments, to secure coal for all the inhabitants.
The new laws, which deal with the system of redistribution of coal in Poland and the protection of electricity consumers from the negative effects of Russia’s hostilities in Ukraine, will be proceeded at the session of the Sejm on Thursday 20 October.
