“We should change the paradigm and stop saying ‘Russia cannot win this war’ and ‘Ukraine cannot be defeated’. This is not enough. We need to speak very loudly: Russia must lose this war and Ukraine must win this war”, said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in an interview with the US television station MSNBC.
The Polish Prime Minister was a guest on the Morning Joe programme hosted by Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough. He recalled that the Munich conference ended a week ago. “I am thinking of the earlier Munich Conference in 1938, when countries were hesitant and undecided and the British Prime Minister is said to have “brought back peace for his country from it”, said Morawiecki and added: „We know how that ended. A year later we had war in Europe. So now, if we want to have peace, we must prepare for war”.
Asked how Poland as a country and society is handling the reception of refugees from Ukraine, the head of the Polish government said: “My government has prepared all the logistics and all the elements needed to receive Ukrainians, who are mainly mothers with children. But it is the Poles who have opened their homes and hearts to the Ukrainians. We give them access to medical care and education on the same basis as Poles, so Ukrainians feel at home here. They are welcome here as long as they need it. Their brothers and husbands on the frontline know that they feel safe here”, added Morawiecki.
Prime Minister Morawiecki expressed concern about recent US polls, in which some 25 % of Americans believe that the US is giving too much aid to Ukraine. He pointed out that to those who doubt the value of aid to Ukraine, he would say that if the Ukrainians “lost this war and their country was conquered by Russia, the next day China would attack Taiwan and the world would be in chaos”.
