The Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland (KPRP) has announced that the new Israeli ambassador to Poland will submit his letters of credence in the coming days. It also stressed that relations between the two countries will be put back on track.
The Chancellery said that President Andrzej Duda had spoken by telephone with Israeli President Isaac Herzog. During the discussion the presidents spoke of their support for the development of bilateral relations between Poland and Israel. It was agreed that relations between the two countries would be put back on track.
In a communiqué, the KPRP noted that President Herzog, in a joint initiative with the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Israel, had requested the return of the Polish ambassador to Israel.
“President Duda agreed that a Polish ambassador should be appointed in the short term and said that the new Israeli ambassador to Poland will submit his letters of credence in the coming days. Both presidents expressed the hope that any issues in bilateral relations will be resolved in the future through frank and open dialogue, in a spirit of mutual respect.
New Israeli ambassador Yaakov Livne arrived in Poland at the end of February, the Israeli embassy reported. He was previously head of the Eurasia department at the Israeli foreign ministry, has also served as charge d’affaires in Moscow and was a political counsellor at the embassy in Germany.
In September 2020. Yaakov Livne was nominated by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the post of ambassador to Warsaw, but this was one of many diplomatic appointments that did not see the approval of the previous Israeli government due to conflict within the coalition. Yaakov Livne was nominated as ambassador to Poland almost a year later, at the end of June last year.
