President Andrzej Duda has announced that he will convene a meeting of the National Security Council for Monday 11 March. He recalled that a visit by him and Prime Minister Donald Tusk is scheduled for Tuesday 12 March to Washington, where the two leaders will meet with US President Joe Biden on the 25th anniversary of Poland joining the North Atlantic Alliance.
“I will convene the National Security Council next Monday, ahead of my visit to the US. It is very important for our allies to see that Poland speaks with one voice on security issues”, said the President. The National Security Bureau (BBN) reported that the meeting is scheduled to start at 9am.
Andrzej Duda indicated that the topics of discussion would include the current situation of NATO, the future enlargement of the alliance including Ukraine, as well as Polish-American cooperation and Polish arms purchases in the US.
According to the president, the idea is to talk about security issues “in the full composition of the Polish political scene. To talk about the situation in the North Atlantic Alliance today, the modernisation of our army, our equipment purchases, as well as the upcoming NATO summit. Above all, I want us to show the unity of the Polish political scene in matters of security before this visit to the USA, before the visit to the White House and the meetings with the President of the United States and politicians in the USA”, the President announced.
The National Security Council is an advisory body to the President on matters of internal and external national security. It is composed of the Speakers of the Sejm and Senate, the Prime Minister, the heads of the Ministries of Internal Affairs, National Defence and Internal Affairs and Administration, the Minister Coordinator of Special Services, the heads of parliamentary clubs, the heads of the President’s Chancellery and the National Security Agency.
