President of the Polish Space Agency POLSA Prof. Grzegorz Wrochna said that Poland could put the satellites into orbit in two years, and in the next 5-6 years it is possible to send a technical mission to the Moon. 

“We are already considering very seriously the technical mission to the Moon, where we would send a space rover for sampling, with advanced controls ensuring a high degree of autonomy”, says Prof. Wrochna. 

Scientists are considering the acquisition of rare raw materials that are already running out on Earth In the distant future. This, however, will not become profitable earlier than 20 years, because initially, space mining will primarily meet the current needs of the bases established on the Moon. 

According to Prof. Wrochna Polish companies will certainly participate in these initiatives from the technical side by sending their own space missions and providing robotic and research instruments to larger NASA or ESA missions. Both space agencies want to jointly set up permanent bases on the Moon. Russia has such plans together with China. Operating the bases will require a variety of resources. 

“They will need oxygen, which is abundant on the moon, but in a bound form; water; fuel and materials to build bases from lunar resources to not to transport them from Earth”, explained Prof. Wrochna. 

Although this is a longer perspective, he did not rule out sending the Polish astronaut to the Silver Globe. Prof. Wrochna recalled the recently signed Artemis Accords declaration, which opens the door for Poland to cooperation with NASA. 

In his opinion in the coming years, the main emphasis of the Polish space sector will be on the use of the Earth’s orbit to conduct business activities, and in two years Poland could put its own satellites into orbit.
