On 6 October, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki will attend the first summit of the European Political Community in Prague, with the participation of the heads of state and government of the European Union and 17 leaders of European partner states. On the following day, the head of the Polish government will participate in an informal meeting of the European Council, which will be devoted to the topics of support for Ukraine, energy and economic issues.
The new initiative has been proposed by French President Emmanuel Macron, and the main purpose of the European Political Community meetings is to have a dialogue on the challenges facing the entire continent.
The Prague meeting will be dedicated to deepening dialogue and cooperation in Europe on issues related to security, energy, climate and the economic situation. The summit has invited 27 EU Heads of State and Government and 17 leaders of partner countries (Norway, Iceland, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey and the Western Balkan countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Serbia).
“Poland supports the deepening of dialogue between democratic European states. We regard the initiative of the European Political Community as an attempt to strengthen the West and democratic forces in the current situation. We hope that the Prague Summit will contribute to building European unity in the face of Russian aggression against Ukraine and to persuading all partners to bring their policies towards Russia closer to the Union’s, including the adoption of sanctions,” informed government spokesman Piotr Müller.
During the talks, the leaders will discuss the European Union’s support for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s escalation measures, including the illegal annexation of further occupied Ukrainian territories, the announcement of partial mobilisation and the intensification of threats to use nuclear weapons.
