Polish politicians bid farewell to Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, who died on Thursday at the age of 96. Condolences following the monarch’s passing were expressed by the President, the Prime Minister and the head of the ruling party.
“My deepest condolences to the Royal Family and all British people on passing of Her Majesty the Queen. For decades she been an embodiment of everything that makes Britain truly Great. She will be missed and remembered in Poland and all over the world.” President Andrzej Duda wrote on Twitter
The Polish president, who is visiting Senegal, attended the UK’s embassy in Dakar on Thursday evening, offering his condolences to Ambassador Juliette John, as well as writing in the embassy’s book of condolences and laying flowers there.
“We remember with fondness the message of friendship expressed by the Queen during her visit to Poland in 1996. The Queen’s death is a great loss to the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and the entire international community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family”, the President wrote in a book of condolence.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki tweeted his condolences on Thursday evening.
‘We bid farewell to Queen Elizabeth II, who devotedly served her nation throughout her life, served us too by her example as a self-sacrificing, wise and prudent leader who knew how to lead her country through every storm’, wrote the head of the Polish government.
The British queen was also farewelled by the chairman of Poland’s ruling Law and Justice party, Jaroslaw Kaczynski.
“With sorrow and sadness, I received the news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II. For over seventy years, she was a ruler who embodied the continuity of the United Kingdom, but also, in a sense, the continuity of the whole of Western culture, tradition and civilisation. She will certainly remain in the memory not only of many generations of Britons, but also of the whole world”, said Jarosław Kaczyński.
