Polish passport highest ever in the ranking of the world’s best travel documents

by Dignity News
Poland was ranked 9th in the latest ranking by London-based Henley and Partners, which has been compiling passports according to the level of freedom to travel the world since 2006.

The ranking assesses 199 passports from around the world and is updated quarterly, taking into account changes in visa agreements between countries. It is topped by Japan, whose passport allows visa-free entry to 193 countries.
Poland is ranked 9th, among the best 28 countries. This is Poland’s highest position in the history of the ranking. The Polish passport, like the Hungarian one, entitles to visa-free entry to 184 countries in the world.

Poland has thus been promoted from the 16th position held in 2019. A year ago, we were in 11th place. Just three years ago, the Polish passport allowed travel to 172 countries.

South Korea and Singapore, ex aequo took the second position, whose citizens can travel without a visa to 192 countries.
The third place was taken by Germany and Spain (190 countries), the fourth place by Finland, Italy and Iceland (189 countries), and the top five places are completed by Austria, Denmark, the Netherlands and Sweden together (188 countries).

The United Kingdom and the United States remain in sixth and seventh place with visa-free access to 187 and 186 countries respectively. As the creators of the ranking point out, it seems increasingly unlikely that the British or US passport will regain the top spot in the index that they collectively held in 2014.

The Vatican’s passport was ranked 28th. Its holders can enter visa-free 154 countries.
Iraq (29 countries) and Afghanistan (27 countries) end the list.
