Polish Oil and Gas Mining (PGNiG) has bought a cargo of LNG from the USA, which, after regasification, will be delivered via gas pipelines to the Polish-Ukrainian border for ERU Europe. The ship with American LNG ordered by PGNiG will arrive at the terminal in Świnoujście at the end of February.
PGNiG CEO Paweł Majewski emphasizes that this is the second delivery of American LNG to Ukraine carried out by PGNiG in cooperation with ERU, which is a strategic trading partner on the local market. Good relations built over the years are particularly important now, in the era of major turbulences on the gas market in Europe.
ERU (Energy Resources of Ukraine) is a group of companies with foreign investments specializing in the implementation of projects in the energy sector of Ukraine and one of the largest private importers of natural gas to Ukraine from Europe (Hungary, Slovakia and Poland).
After regasification, the fuel will be introduced into the Polish transmission system. ERU Europe will collect the purchased gas at the Polish-Ukrainian interconnection by the end of March 2022.
This is the second delivery of American LNG to Ukraine by PGNiG and ERU. The first took place in November 2019. The tanker with the purchased cargo arrived at the terminal in Świnoujście and ERU received fuel through the gas pipeline connection in Hermanowice.
In the past, both companies jointly supplied natural gas to the needs of the Ukrainian operator of transmission networks and gas storage facilities. In October 2021, the PGNiG Group, in cooperation with ERU, completed the first-ever supply of non-Russian gas to Moldova, the transaction was concluded as a matter of urgency due to the restriction of gas supplies to Moldova by Gazprom.
In August 2021, PGNiG and ERU started exploration and production activities in Ukraine with the Karpatgazvydobuvannya company, licensed for the exploration and production of hydrocarbons in the western part of the Lviv region, near the border with Poland.
