by DignityNews.eu

Piotr Naimski, a government plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure informed that the company Polish Nuclear Power Plants (PEJ) has completed the preparation of the environmental report. This is an important step that allows continuing the procedure of obtaining an environmental permit.

The report will be sent to the General Directorate for Environmental Protection (GDOŚ) when the amendment to several acts on the procedures for examining the PEJ application for an environmental decision enters into force.

Piotr Naimski explained, that after submitting the report, GDOŚ will automatically start analyzing the previously submitted application. This is a procedure that assumes cross-border consultation on environmental impact, run by GDOŚ and the Polish Nuclear Power Plants. After the formal evaluation, the report will be made public.

The entire procedure will probably take several months. After the environmental report, it will be time to complete the in-site report.

In the opinion of Piotr Naimski, “at the turn of 2022-2023, Poland should start implementing a selected technology and sign a preliminary but binding agreement with the partner who will build power plants in Poland, in accordance with the PEJ document of October 2020”.

The government maintains the assumption that the first Polish reactor will be operational in 2033. This means that construction works should begin in 2026. By then, the key elements of the accompanying infrastructure must be ready, including access roads, railways and a sea terminal.
