Gaz-System has decided to increase the annual loading capacity on tankers of liquefied natural gas at the Lech Kaczyński LNG Terminal in Świnoujście by an additional 55 thousand tonnes, i.e. by over 40%, as of July. About 60 thousand tonnes of LNG were loaded on tankers in 2020, while last year 100 thousand tonnes were exceeded.
“The LNG terminal is equipped with three tanker loading bays, with which 185,000 tonnes of LNG can be handled annually from July this year, instead of the 130,000 tonnes currently available. The service is provided around the clock. Up to 40 tanker trucks can be loaded during this time, informs Gaz- System.
The main reason for the increase in the service is the growth in demand for LNG in Poland. Gas distributed by tankers is used for the so-called ‘island’ gasification of the country.
“Thanks to the tankers, the raw material is delivered to localities that are far away from the transmission gas pipeline networks. The LNG is delivered to local regasification stations. There, its physical state is changed from liquefied to volatile and then it is delivered to customers via the local distribution network”.
So far, a total of over 18,000 tankers have left the terminal. A single truck transport takes approx. 18 tonnes, i.e. 40 cubic metres of LNG is taken by wheel transport. After regasification, the raw material increases its volume 600 times – from the loading of one tanker, 24 thousand cubic metres of gas are obtained.
Gaz-System is a strategic company for the Polish economy. It is responsible for the transmission of natural gas, manages the most important gas pipelines in Poland and owns the LNG terminal in Świnoujście.
The company is implementing one of the most important infrastructure projects – the Baltic Pipe project, which involves the construction of a two-way offshore gas pipeline connecting Poland and Denmark, the expansion of the local transmission network and three gas compressor stations. Interconnectors with Lithuania and Slovakia are also under construction.
