India’s Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT-Delhi) and NCBR’s IDEAS, set up by the National Centre for Research and Development, have started cooperation in research on artificial intelligence and the digital economy. For the Polish institution, this will be the first such collaboration with a university from India.
IIIT-Delhi is a relatively young research institution. It was established on the initiative of the local authorities in 2008 and has been focusing on education in new technologies, especially the IT sector. The university educates students in six majors and has four specialised research centres – dedicated to artificial intelligence, computational biology, design and new media, and technology policy.
The collaboration will allow the partners to conduct joint research more efficiently. It will also enable the exchange of doctoral students, researchers and staff, as well as doctoral-level training. It will also improve participation in seminars, symposia and short-term academic programmes. Progress in project development will be presented before the European Commission, among others, in order to obtain funding for research activities.
The agreement marks the beginning of a new chapter in academic and research cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.
“Our shared goals are to advance knowledge, encourage researchers to be creative and equip the next generation of world leaders with a robust and scalable AI infrastructure. Our collaboration, described in the memorandum, lays the foundations for a shared journey towards technological excellence and social change. It also reflects our commitment to advancing cutting-edge research and fostering intellectual exchange”, says Professor Piotr Sankowski, President of IDEAS NCBR.
India is a very important place on the global AI map and is well on its way to becoming one of the global centres for the development of artificial intelligence. The Indian AI market is worth $9.4 billion in 2022.
