Polish government doubles the expenditure on the Plus Rail Program

by Dignity News
Jacek Sasin, deputy prime minister, minister of state assets emphasized that the Railway Plus program is entering a new decisive phase. “Thanks to the prime minister’s decision, which will be confirmed today, the program will get an additional financial injection over PLN 11 billion, instead of PLN 5.6 billion”, said Sasin at the press conference in Janów Podlaski, where prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki and ministers participated in the announcement of the list of projects qualified for implementation under the government’s local and regional complementary program of the “Rail +” railway infrastructure.

In the second part of the railway program, 47 applications were submitted together with the prepared documentation of planning and prognostic studies. The Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk announced that 34 projects will be implemented with a total value of PLN 11 billion, and the work will include a total of 1203 km of railway lines. The accepted plans include the project reconstruction of the railway to Międzychód, as well as a large construction project of the new railway Zegrze – Przasnysz.

Originally, 17 projects were planned in this call, but increased financing allowed the government to double the number of projects.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said “Poland must develop and we provide this development. Most Poles live in smaller and medium-sized towns and we do not forget about them. However, we want to forget about the times when the railway stations and stops were overgrown by grass, with destroyed equipment and buildings. It was a bad time. That time is over. The last few years are proof that we can restore railway connections”, said Prime Minister and reminded that from 2015 Poland has modernized about 6,000 km of railway tracks, and over 800 railway stations and stops have been modernized or built.
