The Polish Embassy in Moscow confirmed reports that its bank account was blocked. This may be Russia’s response to the blocking of the country’s embassy’s accounts in Warsaw. The Polish mission in the Russian capital does not provide more information on this matter.

“The embassy can confirm the information that the account has been blocked. At the same time, due to the facility’s interests and the rules of its functioning, we do not provide any detailed information”, informed the Polish embassy in Moscow.

Information on the blocking of the accounts of the Polish embassy in Moscow was posted on the Onet portal, indicating that such actions may lead to a situation in which the facility will not be able to pay current electricity and gas bills, pay salaries or buy fuel for cars in a relatively short time. According to the portal, this is Russia’s response to the blocking of the accounts of that country’s embassy in Warsaw.

Last week, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki was asked during one of the press conferences whether the Polish services had blocked the money in the Russian embassy’s accounts due to Russia having allocated it to terrorist activities. The Prime Minister stressed that questions about the details of this case should be addressed to the services.

“I can only say in general that we actually dealt with the withholding of the financial resources of the Russian Federation”, he stressed.

The tvn24.pl portal previously wrote that in mid-March, after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, diplomats from the Russian embassy in Warsaw tried to pay out in cash the equivalent of over EUR 2 million, i.e. about PLN 10 million. These attempts were to be blocked by banks in close cooperation with the General Inspector of Financial Information, an institution that prevents money laundering and financing of terrorism.
