The Cosmetics Europe association representing over 4 thousand companies and associations operating in the cosmetics industry stated that Poland ranks 6th in terms of sales of cosmetics and beauty products in Europe. The value of sales on the Polish market is nearly EUR 3.8 billion.
The value of sales of cosmetics and beauty products in Poland is nearly EUR 3.8 billion, which places it in the 6th place in the European ranking, behind Germany (EUR 14 billion), France (EUR 11.5 billion), Great Britain (EUR 9.8 billion), Italy (EUR 9.7 billion) and Spain (EUR 6.4 billion). Europe is the world’s largest market for Beauty & Personal Care products. Its value exceeds EUR 76.5 billion.
According to experts, the cosmetics sector will face a number of challenges caused mainly by the macroeconomic effects of global inflation and the war in Ukraine. The consulting company Bain and Company calculates that due to the rising prices of packaging, raw materials and energy, production costs increased on average by 25 to even 30%.
According to the analysis of Checkpoint Systems – a global supplier of technological solutions for retail – and Crime & Tech, the value of cosmetic products that have not been sold due to the activity of dishonest consumers or thefts in the early stages of supply chains in Poland amounts to EUR 13 million annually. This is more than twice as much as in the case of electronics or sports goods.
“Representatives of the Beauty & Personal Care industry should take into account the unrelenting risk of losses of their products and, among investments in new pro-customer solutions, also include appropriate tools for their protection and full control in supply chains”, assessed Ewa Pytkowska from Checkpoint Systems. She added that the theft of perfumes or razors can generate significant losses, and the number of crimes recorded in Poland in the cosmetics industry is estimated at 3.5%.
The analysis of Cosmetics Europe shows that the Beauty & Personal Care sector in Europe employs over 2 million employees, and the added value generated by the industry for the European economy reaches 30 billion euros each year.
