The Museum of Polish Aviation in Krakow has requested access to memorabilia related to the activities of sport, passenger, agricultural, rescue or recreational aviation to be displayed in a new exhibition in 2025.
According to museum director Tomasz Kosecki, the new exhibition ‘With the wind and against the wind – civil aviation’, which presents the role and achievements of civil aviation in Poland, will be located on the mezzanine floor of the new hangar hall ‘Heksagon’, the construction of which began last spring.
The organisers of the exhibition under construction have asked all lovers and enthusiasts of aviation, families and friends of aviators, and all persons interested to share any memorabilia. Sporting trophies, photographs, documents, badges, distinctions, uniforms and suits, as well as records of memories are extremely valuable to the museum workers.
Employees of the Krakow museum have assured that the donated materials, depending on the will of the owners, can be included in the museum’s collection or deposited for exhibition purposes.
Construction of a new exhibition hall – the ‘Heksagon’ hangar – at the Polish Aviation Museum has been underway since spring last year. The facility will have an area of 2,613 sq m, including a mezzanine of 665 sq m. The investment refers to the historical plans for the development of the airport and to the former Hangar No. 5, destroyed by the Germans retreating from Krakow in January 1945. It aims to strengthen the museum’s infrastructure and display nearly 40 unique aircraft, including gliders.
Established in 1963, the Polish Aviation Museum protects and presents Polish and world aviation heritage. It is one of the largest European museums of its kind. The collection includes over 200 aircraft, gliders, helicopters, over 140 aircraft engines and rocket sets. The museum also has a collection of books on aviation, over 20,000 photographs and a collection of orders and decorations.
