“Poles were right about Russia from the beginning. We reacted appropriately to the aggression and showed solidarity towards refugees. This is a phenomenon that has become part of the history of international politics”, said Krzysztof Szczerski, Poland’s ambassador to the UN.
“Today Poland is a model, it thinks independently and mobilises other countries, because this war should end in the defeat of Russian imperialism. We speak with our own voice and that is why we are a leader and partner for the USA. We are followed by others”, added Szczerski.
He admitted that “there were times when Poland was the parrot of other nations and there are now times when we speak with our own voice. Independent Poland is more interesting to others, it is our own opinion that builds our position in the world”, stated Poland’s ambassador to the UN, explaining the reasons why Joe Biden chose Warsaw as the venue for his visit that coincided with the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
US President Joe Biden will address the Polish nation in the afternoon of Tuesday 21 February in Warsaw, in the Kubicki Arcades in the gardens of the Royal Castle. Joe Biden’s visit includes a meeting with President Andrzej Duda and, on Wednesday 22 February, his participation in the Bucharest Nine summit, where further support for Ukraine will be discussed.
Foreign analysts point to the growing position of Poland and also of the entire eastern flank. The B-9 format seems to be particularly important in this respect. Countries belonging to this format place particular emphasis on increasing the presence of US troops in Central and Eastern Europe and guaranteeing a faster Nato response in the face of a threat.
In recent days, pressure has been growing on the Biden administration to provide Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, in a weekend interview on CBS’s ‘Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan’, said that he believed that fighter jets from the West would eventually be delivered – as with other advanced weapons, the delivery of which to Ukraine was unimaginable when the war began.
