According to a report on preferences and shopping intentions of Polish consumers before Christmas, authored by analytical and research platform UCE Research and BLIX Group, 81 % of Poles will limit spending on Christmas grocery shopping, a year ago such an intention was declared by 45 % of respondents. Only 11 % of Poles have no intention to save money on Christmas food.
According to Marcin Lenkiewicz of BLIX Group, this year’s result is a big change compared to last year, when one in four respondents intended to cut back on grocery shopping. “Price rises are of course the main driver of the desire to save, but not only. It’s not so much that we want to save, but that we want to not spend more on Christmas or try to buy as many products as possible within last year’s budget”, he said.
One in three respondents declares that they will spend between PLN 101 and 200 per person on groceries. An amount between 201 and 300 PLN is planned to be spent by 17 % of respondents. A cost of 100 PLN per person was declared by 16 % of respondents, while the same number of people could not specify the amount, they would spend on Christmas grocery shopping. 10 % of respondents declared spending between 301 and 400 PLN, 7 % of respondents between 401 and 500, and amounts above 500 PLN are planned to be spent by 6 % of Poles.
Nearly 90 % of respondents declared that they would do their Christmas grocery shopping this year on special offers, while 94% of Poles said they will buy Christmas products with a shopping list, which helps to plan them and stick to a set budget. It also allows them to compare offers.
The survey for the report was conducted in the first days of December by UCE Research and BLIX Group using the CAWI (Computer Assisted Web Interview) method on a sample of 1105 consumers responsible for daily shopping in their households.
