Polish Armaments Group is getting closer to signing an agreement with the US government for the supply of Piorun systems. Representatives of the Polish armaments industry and the administration of the US government should sign relevant documents on the matter in the coming days.
Talks concerning the sale of the Piorun, proven on the Ukrainian front, have been held for many months. The US Army is interested in buying several hundred this mobile air defence system. Piorun has proven itself against helicopters, attack aircraft and unmanned systems, among others.
“The new-generation Piorun will be a breakthrough on the market”, said Dr Przemysław Kowalczuk, president of PIT-Radwar SA, an electronic company owned by the PGZ Group, and vice-president of rocket-ammunition company Mesko SA, last December. The first tests of the new set could be carried out by the team in just 18 months.
Poland’s man-portable air-defence system (MANPADS). Piorun has proved itself on the Ukrainian frontline, and as a result has gained international recognition.
“Piorun has proven to be the world’s best-in-class design. This is a statement by the users, not just the manufacturer. It currently outclasses all other systems of this type”, Kowalczuk stresses.
In January, Mesko signed a contract for the sale of Polish anti-aircraft missile systems with the Ministry of Defence of Georgia. Polish systems were previously bought by the armies of Norway and Estonia. The manufacturer of the Pioruns, the Mesko company from Skarżysko-Kamienna, informed that under the contract, worth several tens of millions of euros, Mesko will deliver several hundred Piorun missiles and launch systems to Norway. The order from Estonia is worth €103 million, which the Estonian government has allocated from its military defence strengthening package.
