The Border Guard announced on Monday that from February 24, 2,944 million people entered Poland from Ukraine. On Sunday, the officers accepted 9.800 persons, while on Monday until 7 am – 1.8 they were about 1000 people, which was 35% less compared to Saturday.
On Sunday, 11.8 thousand people left Poland for Ukraine and from February 24 they were 860 thousand people. Last Thursday and Friday, for the first time from the beginning of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, more Ukrainians left Poland than came to Ukraine.
According to the deputy minister of the interior and administration and the government’s plenipotentiary for war refugees from Ukraine, Paweł Szefernaker, some people who left Poland last week returned to their families for Easter.
“Those people who wanted and who had a safe situation in Ukraine tried to come back for Easter”, said Paweł Szefernaker. He also noted that the talks with refugees showed that the dream of the majority was to return to Ukraine, to their homes, to their families.
“But no conclusions should be drawn from these conversations and numbers at the moment because these people very often do not know if they will return to Poland, they do not know their fate, because it results from the war situation”, emphasized the plenipotentiary for war refugees from Ukraine.
On Monday, Deputy Minister Szefernaker said that today we will probably exceed one million refugees from Ukraine who received the PESEL register. According to the government plenipotentiary for refugees, only some Ukrainians in Poland are planning to stay there longer.
Obtaining a PESEL number enables refugees who left Ukraine due to the Russian aggression to benefit from social and medical assistance and the education system. Foreigners can set up a Trusted Profile and then start working legally.
