Presumably next week, during the planned visit to the US, Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin and Minister of Development and Technology Piotr Nowak, will sign an agreement on the construction of small nuclear reactors.
The president of KGHM (Polish multinational corporation), Marcin Chludziński, will also be in the USA in that time. In September last year, KGHM concluded an agreement with American NuScale Power regarding the preparation for the implementation of investments in the construction of nuclear energy sources in the SMR technology.
KGHM previously announced that the first block of SMR would be operational in 2029. As reported, the agreement concerns the development of nuclear technology in the form of repowering existing coal turbines or the development of new nuclear energy sources in the form of SMR – from 1 to 12 modules with a capacity of 77 MW.
Karol Manys, a spokesman for the Ministry of State Assets, confirmed about Jacek Sasin’s planned visit to the USA. However, he did not want to comment about its details and the meetings that the Deputy Prime Minister would have with representatives of the White House administration.
In November, the United States had already signed a similar cooperation agreement with the Romanian government. The technology provider will also be the American company NuScale, which will build a six-module SMR in Romania.
