Poland and the Czech Republic ready to operate the Ukrainian mobile network in the case of destruction of the GSM infrastructure

by DignityNews.eu
Exatel, the Polish telecommunications operator and provider of cybersecurity services, announced that in the case of the destruction of the Ukrainian GSM infrastructure, operators from Poland and the Czech Republic will be able to ensure the functioning of the mobile network in Ukraine.

Exatel and partners including telecommunications infrastructure operators have created solutions that enable the transfer of mobile traffic from Ukraine to Polish and Czech mobile operators. If, for example, Kyiv is conquered and the operators’ data centers are destroyed, the users of mobile phones in Ukraine will still be able to use them.

Exatel’s activities are leading to allow collecting traffic from base stations in Ukraine and transfer it to controllers and “cores” – connecting the mobile network with the Internet in Poland and the Czech Republic. For now, cooperation has been established with one of the largest Ukrainian operators, but it can be extended to other operators at any time.

Michał Szczęsny from Exatel says that the operator is ready to maintain the use of the network in Ukraine in the case of the destruction of infrastructure in Ukraine. It was possible to build not only basic but also back-up links. This operation was carried out very quickly, we launched the first links already a week after the outbreak of the war.

Exatel representatives emphasized that all services provided by this company, including the shipment of equipment to Ukraine, are provided free of charge, on the basis of assistance to the Ukrainian side, as well as the services of partners cooperating on this project. In a similar model, Exatel can secure other operators in Ukraine or provide data transmission to other Ukrainian organizations, e.g. for the army or banks.
