Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki took part in intergovernmental consultations between Poland and Slovakia. The topics of the talks in Bratislava included Russian aggression against Ukraine and energy and economic policy. Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger announced that the Polish-Slovak gas connection will be launched this year.

At a joint press conference of both prime ministers, Eduard Heger said that he had talked with Mateusz Morawiecki about the future of energy sources including oil and gas. He noted that in terms of gas, Poland is a key partner for Slovakia, and the construction of a gas connection between Poland and Slovakia is now being completed.

“This year the connection should be launched, we expect a test launch in July 2022”, stated the Prime Minister of Slovakia.

Eduard Heger admitted that Slovakia needed a strong partnership to guarantee its citizens a steady gas supply. He thanked Poland for its cooperation. In his opinion, Poland is for Slovakia not only a partner but also a friend. The head of the Slovak government also spoke about Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

“We have witnessed killing children, raping women, we are facing the killing of innocent citizens, that is, the destruction of the country”, emphasized the Slovak prime minister. He added that Poland and Slovakia are neighbors, friends who have not turned their backs on Ukraine.

“We are helping Ukraine very intensively and we will continue cooperation in this aid because we realize in the context of our history how important it is for Ukraine to remain a free, democratic country”, emphasized Heger.

“We really agree with Poland when it comes to the initiative and the future of Ukraine in terms of the European perspective. We said that we would speak with a strong common voice that we would support this European future for Ukraine”, reported the Slovak Prime Minister.
