PKP Intercity has signed a cooperation agreement with the Lublin University of Technology. This is another agreement on joint scientific, technical, and educational activities of the company with a partner from the world of science, which has become the 17th university cooperating with the national carrier.
As a result of the agreement, the parties declared an ongoing exchange of information on possible areas of cooperation in terms of research and development (R&D) work carried out and the possibility of implementing the results of this work in economic practice. For the company, cooperation with the education sector allows it to bridge staff gaps, provide graduates with career paths in the railway industry, and for the partners to adapt education to the requirements of the labour market of railway operators.
“We want to use the knowledge and scientific resources of Lublin University of Technology, offering practical solutions from the side of the company. As part of our development strategy, we have set ourselves a specific direction for growth, but to achieve further goals, we need to increase the number of qualified specialists. In Lublin we are planning to build a modern technical base for our trains”, said Tomasz Gontarz, vice-president of the management board of PKP Intercity.
As Professor Zbigniew Pater, rector of PL, pointed out, cooperation between universities and companies is a key element of effective education that benefits both students and employees.
“For our scientists, it is an opportunity to turn the results of their research related to the development of railway technology into real products and services that can reach the market”, he said.
Lublin University of Technology is the seventeenth university to enter into cooperation with PKP Intercity. Earlier, PKP Intercity signed agreements with universities of technology from Poznań, Wrocław, Gdańsk and Kraków, as well as with the Silesian University of Technology, the Opole University of Technology, the Warsaw University of Technology, the Warsaw School of Economics or the Military University of Technology.
