PKN Orlen and Synthos Green Energy to import energy from Ukraine

by Dignity News
PKN Orlen and Synthos Green Energy will jointly invest in a project that will enable the import of electricity from Ukraine and contribute to the stabilization and diversification of supply sources. The project will be handled by Orlen Synthos Green Energy – a company established by both companies.

Electricity could be provided to Poland from the Khmelnytsky power plant in Ukraine. Its import based on the modernized infrastructure would contribute to satisfying the needs of Polish industry and reduce Poland’s dependence on hydrocarbon-based energy sources. Orlen Synthos Green Energy will carry out the process of technical arrangements necessary to implement this project.

Approved by the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection in March this year, the joint company will be responsible for the preparation and commercialization of MMR and SMR technologies in Poland, i.e. micro and small nuclear reactors.

The PKN Orlen Group manages six refineries in Poland, the Czech Republic and Lithuania, and is also active in Poland and Canada. Its consolidated sales revenues reached PLN 131.5 billion in 2021. The company has been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE) since 1999.

The Synthos capital group is a leading producer of chemical raw materials in Poland and Europe. It was listed on the WSE from 2004 to April 2018. Synthos has 7 production plants, located in Poland, the Czech Republic, France and the Netherlands and employs over 3,000. workers.
