Photovoltaic farm to help support schools and the Senior Citizens’ Home

by Dignity News
The large-scale solar farm EPV Wesółka, owned by the Diocese of Płock and the Diocese of Toruń, has been granted a 20-year concession to generate and sell energy. The money from the sale, after considering costs and paying taxes, is to be used to maintain schools and a senior citizens’ home run by the Diocese of Plock.

The estimated production volume of the installation is 5100 MWh per year. This means that OmnInvest, the owner of the farm, can obtain approximately up to PLN 4 million in revenue from sales.

OmnInvest is a company that was established in 2018 on the initiative of the Bishop of Plock, Piotr Libera. Its sole shareholder was the Diocese of Plock, which the bishop headed from 2007 to 2022. The company’s task was to build a large-scale photovoltaic farm to be constructed on land owned by the church.

At the time, it was one of the largest planned photovoltaic farms in Poland. The process of obtaining approvals and permits took more than three years, with preparatory work including an environmental report, geological surveys of the ground and several legally required agreements, and at the same time the design of this large-scale photovoltaic installation began. The final stage of the investment is the concession for the electricity generator received on 17 November.

“The generated income will be used for the works for which the Diocese of Płock is responsible including Catholic Schools in Płock, the Youth Education Centre “Well” in Płock, the Senior Citizens’ Home “Beautiful Life” in Sikorze. The activities of these institutions serve children, young people and the elderly requiring constant care. Specific funding is required for the maintenance of the facilities and their modernisation, as well as for the provision of infrastructure to broaden the possibilities for assistance. The maintenance of facilities, both diocesan and parish, also requires increased expenditure.
