The Polish Energy Group (PGE) has been highly rated in an independent assessment of the global environmental study conducted by CDP.
Managing environmental and climate impacts is becoming one of the key topics of interest for investors, banks, and insurers. To correctly assess the company’s development potential, they use, among other things, the international CDP study to demonstrate PGE’s level of maturity in the area of climate change management.
PGE has improved its score in this study for another consecutive year, achieving a B grade in climate change, which means that it manages the environmental impact of its activities well and has implemented actions, policies and strategies to address climate change issues.
The improvement in the score was possible, among other things, because PGE expanded the scope of reported information to include an advanced analysis of risks and opportunities arising from climate change, has regularly counted its carbon footprint in three scopes for the past two years and is increasingly managing the ESG area (15 PGE SA departments are involved in the work of the Sustainable Development Committee, which operates under the chairmanship of PGE’s CEO).
In the area of water management, PGE again received a grade of C, which means that the organisation is aware of its impact and identifies risks and opportunities in relation to its operations.
Responding companies are assessed and scored on four consecutive levels, which represent the stages a company goes through as it progresses in its environmental management, on a grading scale from D – (lowest) to A (highest).
CDP is one of the most recognised international research platforms assessing organisations’ commitments and performance on environmental issues, supported by, among others, nearly 746 financial institutions managing $136 trillion in assets. On 6 February 2024, the CDP published the results of its disclosures on the impact and management by companies on, among other things, climate change and water conservation.
