Permanent helicopter airbase of the Land Forces to be established in Świdnik

by Dignity News

A permanent helicopter aviation base of the Land Forces will be established in Świdnik, at Lublin Airport. The military helicopter base will be located on a 100-hectare grassy airfield, which belongs to Lublin Airport.

“This is very good news for the security of the Polish Republic and regional development, but above all for the Lublin Voivodeship and the city of Lublin. We have just signed a letter of intent between the Ministry of National Defence and the city of Lublin, the Lubelskie Voivodeship and Lublin Airport in connection with an investment that the Polish Armed Forces are planning here – the location of a permanent helicopter aviation base of the Land Forces here in Świdnik, at Lublin Airport, which will serve the needs of the Polish Armed Forces” said Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak – Kamysz after signing the letter of intent.

The head of the defence ministry pointed out that strengthening the military presence in the east of the country is important for national security.

“This investment in an airport in Lublin and the emergence of a permanent helicopter base here is a huge reinforcement for the functioning of the armed forces. Eastern Poland is the part of the country that deserves general support today. There must be a permanent presence of allied troops here, but our army must also invest in these areas. We are strengthening this potential of security and defence today”, declared min. Kosiniak-Kamysz.

The military helicopter base will be built on a 100-hectare grassy airfield that belongs to Lublin Airport. Today, this area is used by the Lublin Aeroclub.

“The airport will expand within its current location. The arrival of the air force means the construction of new hangars to service the machines, the expansion of the cargo section, necessary for the army’s logistics, and several other developments”, announced Andrzej Hawryluk, President of the Lublin Airport Management Board.
