Orlen Group has entered into a conditional agreement with EDP Renewables Polska for the purchase of 3 wind farms in the Wielkopolska region with a total capacity of 142 MW. The acquired assets are among the most modern and efficient wind farms. They are powered by, among others, 4.2 MW turbines, some of the largest currently in use in Poland.
Commissioned in 2021 and 2022, the farms produce as much energy as is consumed annually by around 240,000 households. The transaction is expected to be finalised later this year.
“We are making one of the largest transactions on the domestic renewable energy market in recent years. The scale of our operations and experience in acquisition processes allow us to effectively carry out this type of operation. We are consistently investing in this segment to offer clean and competitively priced energy to our customers. By 2030, we will have approximately 9 GW of capacity installed in renewable sources, becoming a leader in the energy transformation of our region”, announces Orlen CEO Daniel Obajtek.
The transaction includes the purchase of 3 wind farms located in Wielkopolska, near Ujazd (with a capacity of 30 MW), Dobrzyca (with a capacity of 49.9 MW) and Dominowo (with a capacity of 62.4 MW). The latter plant uses, among others, Vestas V136 turbines with a maximum height of 166m and blades of 76.2m each – some of the largest onshore units currently operating in Poland.
By the end of 2030, ORLEN Group will operate renewable energy sources with a total capacity of over 9 GW. These will include offshore and onshore wind farms, photovoltaics as well as biogas and biomethane generation units. During this time, the corporation will also produce energy using small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs). In total, by the end of the decade, the corporation will have earmarked as much as PLN 120 billion for green investments.
