On Tuesday, 21 March 2023 at Camp Kościuszko in Poznań, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence Mariusz Blaszczak took part in the ceremony of the transformation of the Area Support Group Poland (ASG-P) into the U.S. Army Garrison Poland (USAG-P).
U.S. Army Garrison Poland will be the eighth permanent U.S. Army Garrison in Europe and the first permanent U.S. Army Garrison in Poland. During the ceremony, the Garrison’s flag was unveiled and handed over. Also, the order establishing U.S. Army Garrison – Poland was read.
The Poznań unit was established thanks to the US President’s Decision 2022 and will deal with infrastructural support for US troops stationed in Poland. The garrison will also be tasked with the leadership and management of the US military’s advanced outposts in Poland.
The US V Land Forces Corps’ advanced command, which has been operating on Polish territory since 2020, was renamed ‘Camp Kosciuszko’ in July 2022. Its main task is to coordinate the activities and oversight of US ground forces in Europe, operational planning and the cooperation and synchronisation of US forces with the militaries of other NATO countries.
“Our cooperation is going very well, even in a model way. I want to assure you that later this year, together with Ambassador Brzezinski, we will invite visitors to meetings at which we will present the effects of our cooperation”, announced Minister of National Defence Mariusz Błaszczak.
As he recalled, this year, in addition to Abrams tanks, the HIMARS system will also be supplied to the Polish Army. Patriots are also being deployed in Poland. Next year, the first F-35 aircraft will be delivered to the Air Force.
“Our goal is to provide the Polish Army with equipment that will be as compatible as possible with equipment from the United States”, said Deputy Prime Minister Błaszczak.
