A new POLREGIO rolling stock maintenance centre, a modern service and repair complex for railway vehicles, has been opened in Skarżysko-Kamienna. Thanks to an investment worth nearly PLN 50 million, a 110-metre-long hall was built within a year, which will accommodate two inspection channels, an additional repair track and workshop, staff, and office facilities. The centre will employ more than 100 people.
“This is a historic moment for POLREGIO and the railways in Poland. Almost 140 years ago, in Skarżysko-Kamienna the first new steam locomotive in the history of Poland set off on its journey. Today we are writing another page in the history of the Polish railway. Some of the up to 200 new EMUs which we will receive in the years 2025-26 will go to the new maintenance depot. We are consistently investing billions PLN in modern regional railways”, emphasised Artur Martyniuk, President of the Management Board of POLREGIO.
In addition to the standard P1 and P2 level train depot inspections, the new facility is planned to carry out around 150 maintenance level 3 inspections, as well as a minimum of 37 P4 revision repairs by 2030.
In the new hall, POLREGIO will service trains from the Świętokrzyskie, Małopolska and Podkarpackie provinces, as well as rolling stock of other operators. The investment was made thanks to a long-term agreement between POLREGIO and the Marshal’s Office of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship.
POLREGIO is the largest passenger carrier in Poland. Every day, around 1,500 trains ordered and financed by provincial self-governments go on tracks across the country. During the year, POLREGIO’s services are used by nearly 72 million passengers. POLREGIO trains stop at over 1,900 stations. The company’s share in the rail passenger transport market remains at the level of 27%. The company’s majority shareholder is Agencja Rozwoju Przemysłu S.A.
