Network of Polish expressways exceeded 5,000 km

by Dignity News
Ministry of Infrastructure announced that thanks to the opening to traffic of a 48 km section of the S11 expressway between Koszalin and Bobolice in the Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship, the network of Polish motorways, i.e. motorways and express roads, has exceeded 5,000 km.

“We are today delivering almost 50 km of new expressway to drivers. Another section is under construction, up to Szczecinek”, said Infrastructure Minister Andrzej Adamczyk.

The construction of S11 Koszalin – Bobolice was divided into three implementation sections, on which work was carried out by different contractors from July 2021. “The section Koszalin – Zegrze Pomorskie, 16.8 km long, was realised by Budimex, while Zegrze Pomorskie – Kłanino, 19.3 km long, was built by Mostostal. A consortium of Kobylarnia and Mirbud was responsible for the last section Kłanino – Bobolice with a length of 11.6 km”, recalled the infrastructure ministry.

In 2022, the investment received funding from European Union funds in the amount of over PLN 856 million. The total cost of the investment, including supervision and land purchase, is more than PLN 1.7 billion.

In August this year, the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) signed a contract for the construction of another section of S11 from Bobolice to Szczecinek. Work on this section is scheduled to start next year and be completed in 2026.

By 2030, the entire S11 route will connect Kołobrzeg, located in Central Pomerania, via Piła, Poznań and Kępno with the Silesian Agglomeration. When all sections have been completed, it will be over 580 km long, and together with the joint route with the S6 from Kołobrzeg to Koszalin (approx. 35.5 km), nearly 620 km long. Currently, drivers have about 200 km of this route at their disposal. The remaining sections of the S11 are already under construction or under preparation.

In the coming years, it will take just over 5 hours to drive the route from Kołobrzeg to the Piekary Śląskie junction on the connection with the A1 motorway.
