The Stegny skating track in Warsaw will receive nearly PLN 72.5 million in support from the Ministry of Sport and Tourism. The head of this ministry, Slawomir Nitras, and the mayor of Warsaw, Rafal Trzaskowski, signed an agreement on funding for an investment strategic to the development of ice sports in Poland.
“Thanks to this investment, sports competitions of a championship level will also be able to be watched in Warsaw. I believe that future Olympic athletes will grow up on the modernised track”, said the Minister of Sport and Tourism, Sławomir Nitras.
He added that Warsaw, as the capital of a large European country, deserves an infrastructure that will serve both the development of competitive sport and all its inhabitants. “It will soon be possible to spend time actively with children in modern, safe conditions in comfortable and professional conditions in Stegny”, he said.
Ministry of Sport and Tourism emphasises that in awarding funding for the modernisation of the Stegny skating track under the ‘Programme of investments of particular importance for sport’, Minister Sławomir Nitras took into account the shortage of ice facilities in Poland and the unique nature of the venue. The modernisation of the Stegny skating track is an essential investment, which will ultimately have a significant impact on the development of ice sports, as well as an increase in the sporting activity of society.
Thanks to government support, a modern sports complex will be built at Stegny to serve winter sports representatives and Warsaw residents.
The scope of the investment includes the demolition of the currently existing buildings; the construction of a skating track hall, which will include: a speed skating track with a length of 400 m and radii of 26 m, 30 m and 34 m, two indoor ice rinks with the size of 30×60 m for short track, ice hockey and figure skating; the construction of sports and administrative facilities, as well as an auditorium with 4,500 seats. The expected completion date for the task is 31 December 2027.
The total cost of the investment is PLN 180 million and the awarded subsidy from the Ministry of Sport and Tourism is PLN 72,495,700.00.
