The newest permanent exhibition “At the Radziwiłł’s home …” has been opened at the Museum in Nieborów. The exhibition shows items from the former Radziwiłłs’ residences, located in today’s Belarus, Lithuania, Ukraine, Poland and Germany.
For the first time, the public was presented with a unique collection of porcelain from Korets and Baranówka, from the collection of the Radziwiłł princes from Balice, and the 16th-century horse armor and browband from the Nieśwież (today’s Niasviz) Castle.
For centuries, the great estates of the Radziwiłł family have been equipped by successive owners with beautiful objects – paintings, furniture, handicrafts or magnificent library collections.
The Radziwiłł palaces and castles focused on cosmopolitan cultural and social life, and the art collections emphasized the rank, identity and prestige of the family. With each new generation, meticulously collected family heirlooms have grown for years.
The greatest treasure of the exhibition is the portrait of Stanisław August Poniatowski by Elisabeth Vigee. The work was created in 1797 at the request of Stanisław August’s niece, Urszula née Zamoyska- Mniszchowa, for the palace in Wiśniowiec.
“It is the most valuable item at our exhibition and its greatest pride. It has been thoroughly researched by us. Previously, it was located in the Museum of the Castle of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania in Vilnius. Now, it is being shown in Poland for the first time”, says the museum’s curator Monika Antczak.
The other objects presented at the exhibition are from the collection of the Trzy Trąby Foundation, the collection of Maciej Radziwiłł, the collection of Andrzej Wasilewski and the collection of Sylwester Rudnik.
