More than 270 thousand Ukrainian citizens employed in Poland

by Dignity News
Since 15 March this year, entrepreneurs have reported employing more than 270,000 Ukrainian citizens. The vast majority of them, as many as 194 thousand, are women. Over the past month, the number of employed Ukrainian citizens increased by 70 thousand. Most people in recent months found work in the Mazowieckie, Dolnośląskie, Łódzkie and Wielkopolskie Voivodeships.

According to the Minister of Family and Social Policy Marlena Maląg, these workers occupy an important place in the labour market in Poland, taking up employment in industries struggling with staff shortages.

Ukrainian nationals work mainly in industrial processing, transport, warehouse management and activities related to accommodation and catering services, as well as in agriculture and construction. Reports from employers also include information on employment in professions such as doctors, nurses, caregivers of the elderly and medical assistants.

At the same time, the number of Ukrainian citizens registered at labour offices is falling systematically. As recently as the beginning of June, more than 21,000 Ukrainian citizens were registered there. Currently, there are 19 thousand such persons. This confirms the absorptive capacity of the Polish labour market.

According to data from the Central Statistical Office, the unemployment rate in May this year was 5.1%. This is a decrease compared to April, as well as to May last year. The good May situation in the labour market in Poland is also confirmed by Eurostat data. It shows that Poland is once again in the lead of European countries with the lowest unemployment.
