At the end of October this year, 90 902 electric cars were used on Polish roads, a year-on-year increase of 69 %, according to the ” Electromobility Counter” report published by the Polish Automotive Industry Association (PZPM).

As indicated in the report, at the end of October, there were 46,888 all-electric passenger electric vehicles (BEVs, battery electric vehicles) and the plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles) numbered 44,014 units. This is an increase of 69 % year-on-year.

According to the report, the number of electric vans and trucks was 5,464 units. The number of electric mopeds and motorbikes was also reported to be on the rise, reaching 19,211 units at the end of October. In October, the number of hybrid cars and vans in Poland increased to 639,382 units and electric buses to 1,083 units.

Experts point out in the report that a barrier to the development of electromobility may be the charging infrastructure. At the end of October 2023, there were 3166 publicly available electric vehicle charging stations (6378 points) in Poland. In October, 98 new publicly accessible charging stations were launched (219 points).

October saw a very significant increase in almost all categories of electric vehicles. The zero-emission vehicle fleet is growing by between 50 % and 100 % compared to last year, depending on the segment.

“However, this does not change the fact that the real challenges are yet to come. The new government will have a huge window of opportunity, because not only will the ‘My electric car’ programme have to continue, but it will have to be extended and subsidies will also have to be extended to trucks. It is high time to also raise the price limit for passenger vehicles and vans eligible for this programme”, says PZPM president Jakub Faryś.
