Ministry of sport and tourism to allocate two billion PLN for sports halls at schools

by DignityNews.eu

Minister for Sport and Tourism Kamil Bortniczuk has announced that the government will allocate two billion PLN to subsidise the construction of school sports facilities between 2023 and 2024. This year, the funding will be 800 million and next year – one 1,200 million.

„Last Tuesday, at a meeting of the Council of Ministers, a resolution was adopted on the multi-year investment programme Olimpia, which consists of subsidising the construction of future sports halls for Polish local authorities. This is the largest sports infrastructure support programme in Poland’s history, with a budget of two billion PLN over two years, i.e. 2023 and 2024. For this year, the budget has PLN 800 million available, and for 2024 it will guarantee PLN 1.2 billion”, said Minister Bortniczuk.

During a press conference at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, the head of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism encouraged local authorities to acquaint themselves with the regulations and to submit applications. The call for applications will start on 1 March.

“I invite local governments to familiarise themselves with the regulations, and those local governments which find our offer attractive, to apply for support under this programme. Very little is needed to submit an application. It is mainly based on statements. All preparatory work, including obtaining a building permit, can be carried out after submitting the application”, the minister pointed out.

Bortniczuk calculated that the budget under the presented programme allows the construction of more than a thousand halls over the next two years. The programme was piloted last year. During this time, five halls were built, which allowed to obtain additional data. Information coming in from local authorities and contractors has “made the programme’s assumptions more flexible”. As a result, it will be possible to apply for smaller halls than those with pitch dimensions of 20×40 metres. The minimum size is 9×18 metres.
