Ministry of Education and Science to allocate PLN 100m to support non-public schools

by Dignity News
Approximately PLN 100 million is the budget of a programme providing investment funds for non-state institutions. The Ministry of Education and Science (MEiN) has for the first time prepared a programme aimed at non-public schools. “Applications can be submitted until the end of October”, said Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Dariusz Piontkowski.

At a press conference, the deputy head of the Ministry of Science pointed out that local government institutions could take advantage of several government programmes, including the Polish Deal, in which local authorities submitted applications for educational projects. To this date, nearly PLN 7 billion has been allocated to these programmes.

He added that schools had also received a large amount of funding for equipment under the pandemic programme. He also pointed out that local government schools can also benefit from the educational subsidy reserve, whereas non-government institutions have not yet had this type of programme. There are more than 6,000 non-public institutions nationwide.

Around PLN 100 million has been allocated from the special purpose reserve for the programme. The money can be used for the purchase of real estate, renovations, as well as to equip schools or kindergartens. The call for applications runs until the end of October. They should include information on about the investment, its cost estimate, how it will affect the development of the institution and its own contribution.

“These will be the elements that will ultimately determine whether a given organisation will receive funding from the programme”, said the deputy head of the Ministry of Education and Science. He pointed out that there is no specified upper limit for co-financing, but, as he emphasised, one should rather not expect more than a few hundred thousand or perhaps a million PLN for one organisation.

Deputy Minister Piontkowski said that entities wishing to participate in the programme should hurry up, as applications will be considered on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.
