Nuclear energy and ensuring energy security were the main topics of talks between Minister of Climate and Environment Anna Moskwa and Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea Lee Chang Yang.
Minister Anna Moskwa pointed out that, in accordance with the provisions of the “Energy Policy of Poland until 2040”, the first nuclear reactor will start operating in Poland in 2033. It is expected to be an important addition to Polish energy mix and strengthen its energy independence. This will happen in parallel with the development processes of all other energy technologies, especially hydrogen production and the development of renewable energy sources. The diversification of the mix carried out in this way will contribute to Poland’s energy security, the climate and environment.
“Korea is an important partner for Poland among non-European countries in building a modern, competitive economy based on low- and zero-carbon sources. Our cooperation is developmental, multifaceted and extremely rich”, said Minister Anna Moskwa.
Ministers Anna Moskwa and Lee Chang Yang endorsed the ‘Agreement on Energy Cooperation’. It provides for the development of cooperation in the areas of: clean energy sources, including hydrogen; peaceful use of nuclear energy; electromobility; development of batteries and energy storage systems; CCS/CCU technologies; reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency and smart grid technologies; and district heating and cogeneration.
The agreement also established a Joint Energy Cooperation Committee. It will provide a platform for expert dialogue.
