The Ministers for Education and Science and for Internal Affairs and Administration signed a letter of intent to establish a Higher School of Border Guards. “The first students will start training at the new university next year”, reports the Ministry of Education and Science (MEiN).
The Higher School of Border Guards will be established by decree by the Minister of Education and Science, at the request of the minister responsible for internal affairs. The head of the MEiN, Przemysław Czarnek, pointed out that the creation of the new institution is an important decision not only from the point of view of the interests of the state and Polish society, but also of science and higher education.
“The Border Guard (SG) performs an extremely complicated service requiring specialised competences, different from those of the police, fire brigade or other formations. Today, the tasks of the Border Guard have become even more complicated, and it is important to be aware that the near future will require exceptional skills and competences from Border Guard officers. Thus, their training must be standardised. Hence the decision to establish the Border Guard Higher School, which will prepare personnel for the near future”, said the Minister of Education and Science during the signing of the letter of intent.
The current system of training and in-service training for Border Guard officers is based on the activities of the Central Border Guard Training Centre in Koszalin, the Border Guard Training Centre in Kętrzyn and the Border Guard Specialist Training Centre in Luban. The new academy will be established on the basis of the logistical facilities of the centre in Koszalin.
Border Guard officers also carry out tasks beyond the borders of our country, therefore the training will be supplemented by classes conducted by experts participating in foreign missions, persons responsible for international cooperation and familiar with the specific nature of the activities of international services and institutions (Interpol, Europol, Frontex).
